WordTwiq: the daily twin-word puzzle

The rules

1. Two answers, one letter apart. Every puzzle hides a pair of five-letter words, for example SHORE and SCORE. Four positions match; one letter changes.
2. Seven shared guesses. Type any five-letter word. Each guess is checked against both hidden words at once, so every guess gives you clues on two boards.
3. Find one twin, then bridge to the other. Once you find one word, you only need to change its one remaining letter. The bridge keeps the other four letters for you.
4. Solve both to win. Find both words within seven guesses. Invalid or repeated words never use a guess.

What the colours mean

• Green: right letter, right place.
• Coral: the letter is in this word, but somewhere else.
• Grey: the letter is not in this word, or it is an extra copy.

The keyboard remembers clues for both words: each key’s left and right bars track Word One and Word Two, and a struck-through key is missing from both.

Tips for solving

• Start broad. A first guess with common letters (for example CRANE or SLATE) gives clues on both boards at once.
• Compare the two boards. A letter that is green in one word and grey in the other often marks the twist position.
• Think like a word ladder. Once four letters are known, list the words you can make by changing only the fifth: SHORE, SCORE, SNORE, SPORE, STORE.
• Use the hint sparingly. The hint reveals which position changes, without revealing any letters. It costs no guess, but the result counts as assisted.

• Daily puzzle. One new puzzle for everyone, every day at midnight UTC, with a daily leaderboard, streaks and a shareable result grid that never spoils the answers.
• Archive. Every past daily puzzle since 1 January 2026 is free to play.
• Practice. Unlimited games from earlier puzzles, kept off the leaderboard.
• Anywhere. Works on phones, tablets and computers, installs as an app from the browser, and keeps working offline. Optional Google sign-in syncs your progress between devices.

How is WordTwiq different from Wordle?

Both use five-letter words and colour clues, but WordTwiq hides two related words at once, so every guess counts twice and the challenge is finding the twist between them. WordTwiq is an independent game, not affiliated with Wordle or The New York Times.

Does an invalid word cost a guess?

No. Unknown and repeated words never use a guess.

Can I play offline?

Yes. After your first visit the game works offline, including the next day’s puzzle.
